Introduction

As described in Unsolicited User Interaction, applications based on Connectivity Software components may, under certain circumstances, display a user interface based on occurences inside the components. This article provides further details for applications that use MQTT. They occur

• in QuickOPC applications that use OPC UA PubSub transport profiles with MQTT. and
• in Rapid Toolkit for Sparkplug applications (Sparkplug is based on MQTT).

For unsecured MQTT connections, user interaction does not occur. User interaction might be needed, depending on the configuration, when secure MQTT connections (e.g. TLS) are used. The connection can involve server (broker) certificate, client (application) certificate, or both.

Interaction Types

There are following situations that may trigger an unsolicited user interaction related to MQTT operations:

• Getting local certificate(s). This is the certificate that your application uses to authenticate itself to the broker.
• Validation of a remote certificate. This when your application authenticates the broker it is connecting to.
